Raised in Castlepollard, a small town in the middle of nowhere in the middle of Ireland, Derek Coghlan came to the U.S. in 1990. Spending his formative years in Ireland, Derek Coghlan now resides in St. Augustine, FL.
Derek Coghlan lends his unique Irish perspective to comedy shows, weddings, and MMA ring announcing. With a background in theatre, he was a founding member of the Atlantic Shakespeare Company and has played many title roles.
Inspired by the tradition of storytelling in Ireland, in 2004 Derek Coghlan performed his first one man show in Jacksonville, FL, a blend of Irish storytelling with comedic flair called How to Borrow an Egg and other Stories. Other shows soon followed in St. Augustine, FL, Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL including From Castlepollard to Crestview, And one for Yourself, and Repainting Larry Cooper. Some topics include Ireland, the Catholic Church, Germany, and Monica Lewinsky. According to Derek Coghlan, writing and performing his own work is cheaper and hopefully more effective than therapy.
In addition to Irish storytelling, Derek Coghlan also serves as a wedding officiant in St. Augustine, FL and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. His focus is on creating a ceremony that is specific to the couple. I apologize to my family, the Catholic church, Germany, Monica Lewinsky, and anyone else who is offended by the material.
